Filipinos as well as other Asians have seen a dramatic increase in whitening products. Whitening products come in soaps like papaya soap, kojic soap from mushroom, carrot soap and even milk soap. On the other hand, those who can afford for real quick result purchase glutathione soaps and capsules.
According to a 2004 Synovate survey, skin-lightening products are popular across Asia. Some 38 percent of women surveyed in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines use skin-lightening products (pcij 2005). Numbers have been increasing since then. The pressure to become whiter has become an obsession for many.
Since there are a number of whitening products enticing the public of their claim of becoming whiter in just a few days, the Project MCS: Who Makes the Better White is launched.
Students enrolled in Intro to Communication Technology were asked to test one product each and apply it on one hand for two weeks. They were asked to document the progress with photos. The result of the testing will be published through their respective blogs.
